Yet another post about K-ON's continuation

Is it just me or is Mio's face kind of weird

I'm sure everyone already know that the K-ON manga is going to continue... in college (university?) AND a separate story following Azusa and the rest in high school.

While it's generally a good news to me, I'm not particularly enthusiastic about this since I don't really read the manga even though the K-ON anime was undoubtedly one of the best things I've ever watched. The manga obviously will never be as cute as the anime and the humor isn't good enough for me to read the same story twice. (Unless I'm really bored)

Then again, this means that a third season of the anime is very likely to be produced.

I'm not sure how I feel about this... there are many examples of sequels that ruined the franchise because of how they extended the lifespan of it beyond it's originally intended length(i.e Code Geass), and I don't doubt that a large part of the reason of the continuation is because the author isn't ready to let go of this cash cow just yet. It's too hard to tell what kind of direction Kakifly wants to take for Yui and gang's college years, but speculations on the web seems to be fairly negative; there are simply too many (bad) things that could happen in the gang's college years that could ruin the character image and/or the franchise.

And the most talk-about scenario is that the girls would find boyfriends, and it's pretty normal for someone their age to do so. In fact, it would be kind of weird if the whole gang does not have a single BGR in the whole of their high school and college years, unless Kakifly intend to go for a yuri angle but that would be pretty weird itself. Well, I'll be pretty upset if a whole BGR happens offscreen (like Alicia in ARIA) but if the story can introduce a capable male lead I don't think I really care if the girls really gets serious in the relationship O.O

Actually, I'm fairly certain that the story would never introduce any males and just keep goofing off with the girls only. They probably won't mature as well but hey, that's the K-ON we all love.

  1. If they manage to leave them single for the whole university...it will look a little unnatural. :D

  2. Well, I forgot to mention this, but I thought it would be a good idea to do away with timeline altogether. This way the girls will never graduate from college, never get boyfriends, and the series would never end. (because it doesn't have an ending point)
