Winter 2011 Preview

It's a little late since the Winter 2011 series have already started, but who cares?

Seems like chart-making has become a recent fad isn't it? A couple of seasons back every one's using chartfag's, now google images turned up a lot of different ones since he stopped making them.

Despite the fact that the season's already started, I've not watched anything yet... I'm letting the other bloggers give an opinion on the various series before taking my pick =P The other reason is so I'll figure out which is the best subs to watch. Therefore... this post will pretty much stay faithful as a speculation. So far I'm seeing very different opinions on various shows... I'll write my own first episode reviews after watching them.

Likely to watch

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

Because it's Shinbo doing his thing again. I'm also interested in seeing how far someone can take a magical girl show, after seeing what people have done to the Nanoha movie.

I think most people already know that the show is being produced an all-star team. Other than Shinbo, there's Hidamari's mangaka for character design, Phantom's writer for the script and an apparently pretty awesome composer for the song whose name I've never heard of. Looks like Shinbo's ready for this to be Bakemono's second coming, and I'm totally expecting it to be awesome.

There are comments that says there are too much talking and too much like Nanoha in the first episode though. So far the other blogger's outlook's been pretty good save a few.

Kimi ni Todoke 2nd Season

I haven't gave the first season a review yet, but I must say it's pretty well done. Too many times the plot of a romance series turn out to be way too predictable, but Kimi ni Todoke isn't bend on using the very common twists to create suspense and drama.

My only complain is that the story develops way too slowly for me though. There isn't any doubt that I will give this a try but it's most likely after the series ended so I can marathon this in one shot.

Other blogger's outlook has been... somewhat negative, but it's probably due to Kurumi.

IS Infinite Stratos

I'm getting pretty mixed opinions for this one but generally all seems to agree that it isn't something you have not seem before. Which probably means it comes with shounen-style fighting, mecha porn, bishoujos, tsunderes, harems... etc. That's exactly what I'm looking for =D

Well, frankly, good quality animation, eye candy and moe is enough for me to enjoy any series, as long it isn't:

1. Mindfuck, like Code Geass R2
2. Annoying, like Canaan
3. Horribly cliché, like Akane-iro

I should probably add a number 4 for "lame excuse for fan service" like Seikon no Qwaser and Queens's blade, but I guess that's subjective =P

Fractale

Frankly I know nuts about this series except that it's Yamakan's make-it-or-break-it production; apparently he said that he would quit anime if he fails, and that says a lot about how much's he intending to put into this show. Yamakan's works includes likes of Air, Suzumiya Haruhi S1, Kanon, Kannagi, Full Metal Panic, Lucky Star... these are stuff that sold extremely well. I cannot recall what he worked on after Kannagi but I'm expecting quite a lot from this one.

I didn't really like the animation style after watching the preview. Well, I didn't like Kaiba's animation either but it turn out to be one of the best anime ever. After scanning through the manga it does look pretty interesting though.

Might watch

Yuimekui Merry

I'm seeing plenty of likes and hates for this show. But put that into perspective; half the people just "like" it, they didn't really start loving the show yet. The other half of the people almost downright hated it. I guess that comes out pretty negative.

It's by J.C staff who was... pretty good but nowadays they produce plenty of hits (Railgun) as well as misses (Ookami).

There is one comment that had made me view the series in a more negative light though. It said it's similar to Shakugan no Shana. Damn.

I'll still try a couple of episodes though.

GOSICK

First of all, I have no idea why the title sound so lame. Maybe that's in a different language or something.

Now, I loved Yuuki Aoi after seeing, or rather, hearing her perform Murasaki in Kure-nai. I also loved BONES. But the concept of a loli detective with a pansy male lead in victorian setting of a horror/mystery show didn't flip my switch. I guess these are the keywords are subconsciously relate to "boring"

I'll wait for more reviews before checking this one out.

FREEZING

Again, it's a pretty lame name but I know how it relates to the story this time. I gave a manga a try and find that it has pretty good material to make it into a good series... but unfortunately they usually turn out to be bad adaptations. The manga is actually your pretty typical KOREAN shounen battle series so you'll expect to keep seeing fights, fights and more fights.

I thing I hated about these korean series is that they always show a large amount of unnecessary fan service. Or should I say, their style of fan service feels pretty cheap and lacks a certain kind of "class". The amount of huge-breasted ladies and the boob-hug in episode/chapter 1 has turned me off.

I'm quite disappointed in the animation quality thus far. If this is the kind of standard they're going for the rest of the season, I won't be watching it.

Hourou Musuko

A dorama about gender disorder in young kids. If I read that right, I'm guess that person in the skirt on the right is a guy, and the other one a girl.

That's really all I know, but a couple of bloggers with high expectations of this series prompt me to give this a try. If it's really good I guess. Because dramas like this are easy to fail, and even easier to become boring.

Onii-chan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!!

You'd think this series is trying to hard to outdo OreImo in title length.

Read the manga a while back. Don't compare this with the recent OreImo, because it's more of a moe show, this series is more like a gag comedy and way more perverted.

The manga is just a mindless read though. I might give this a try is it turns out like Seitokai Yakuindomo.

Kore wa Zombie desu ka?

If I had to random pick a series to watch, this would be it. Adapted from a novel that got an award or something, featuring cute girls as zombies, ninjas, sorcerers, vampires, etc... And it has Hisaka Youko. That's pretty much I could bother to remember. Judging from the publicity this series has I'm not sure if many people are gonna follow this. Well, if I had to pick one random anime to watch, I might was well pick one with cute girls on the promo poster right? =P

Chance of watching? Very low, unless a blogger chance my mind. I've never been impressed by Studio Deen's quality and production values and I'm not expecting them to pick it up with this series.

Almost no chance of watching

Haiyoru! Nyaru-ani Remember My Mr. Lovecraft
- What?... didn't have any source on this.
Rio Rainbow Gate - Somehow half the blogs I've followed watched this just to complain on how bad it is. One put it this way: "So bad, it's good"
Wolverine - Seems that Iron Man sucked. Won't expect this to be good.
Cardfight!! Vanguard - No
Mitsudomoe Zouryouchuu! - Picking up the first season first.
Beelzebub - At least Midori is a girl. I'm not amused by a demon baby.
Dragon Crisis! - Same as Kore wa Zombie desu ka but a tad less interesting. Still a chance though.
Level E - Despite what anyone says, it still looks gay. And it's Studio Pierrot.
Mai no Mahou to Katei no Hi - Isn't this a kid's show? Don't know, don't care.
