Rest of the First Impressions (Nobuna, Chocolate, Imouto, H, Estetica)

Pointless eyecatch.
Things are pretty hectic at the start of a new school term, and I didn't have the time to preview everything I've wanted. But while writing the pre-season impressions, I've already had a fairly good idea what to expect in the season, and had already done a first impression on everything I would likely watch. Here are the titles that I knew wasn't going to make it to my watch list, but still give it a shot anyways. It was as expected.

Oda Nobuna no Yabou (2 episodes)

Instant synopsis: Guy travel back in time and takes on Toyotomi Hideyoshi's role.

Simply put, the anime never tried to stood out from the rest of the gender-bending historical anime. The premises is identical to Sengoku Otome: Momoiro Paradox almost exactly a year ago; except that our protagonist who is representing Toyotomi Hideyoshi is a guy here. It all depend on your tastes; do you prefer an all-girl cast, or a harem setting?

Our hero is an otaku with too much knowledge of the Sengoku era (or whatever era), and he's using that excess knowledge to compensate for the strategic prowess of the real guy. Not a bad idea, if not for the fact that it has been used before. Unless you're part of the market that are into such stuff (which would explain the amount), there's little value in this. Btw, check out the anime's version of Ieyasu, who would be fighting with Hideyoshi over Japan after Nobunaga's death.
This little girl would be one of the most powerful person to ever rule japan.
Verdict: Good harem, but nondescript, cliché, and unoriginal.

Won't we all love to wake up to a boob grab that the other person have no problems with?
Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate (2 episodes)

Instant synopsis: Guy tries to become school president to prevent his (useless) club from breaking up.

Despite being just two episodes, it already pretty easy to recognize most of the characters, and there's a lot of them. They're designed and voiced well enough to make them interesting. Too bad the story seems to be going nowhere. We seem to be looking at a slice-of-life anime filled with things that the club would do to get votes for the president election, but there's none of the charm like in, say, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita. It could also go for the romance/drama route (like how it's supposed to be), but the lukewarm development that it hints would be frustrating to watch. I might give a few more episodes based on the quality so far.

Verdict: Getting warmer...

Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru! (2 episodes)

Instant synopsis: Guy's sister is part of his harem, but he doesn't know which one is it.

Great nipple-less fanservice, great voice work by seiyuus that are actually simlar age (Hidaka Rina, Sakura Ayane, Ishihara Kaori) and fairly good animation. I just don't understand the draw of the premises; one of the harem members is his sister, and he'll prefer to avoid an incestuous situation. But I'm sure there a target audience for this kind of stuff too, judging by the number of recent anime titles with "imouto" in it. There's also the problem where all these girls fell in love after they barely met. And getting the insidious phone calls every night from the "sister" to dramatize the story sounds really dumb.

Verdict: Good delivery, dumb plot.

Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai (2 episodes)

Instant synopsis: Guy becomes energy battery for a death god that looks like a female high-schooler, and he recharges his energy with perversion.

Endo Aya actually plays the part of a "flustered, but helpless" part exceedingly well. This must be the first time where the girl unwillingly lets a guy grab her breast for over a minute and there's nothing strange about it. The concept is also a great way to justify a pervert male lead's antics. Why didn't anyone think of this sooner?

Too bad, like every anime in this post, it doesn't have a good story to complement it. With only the objective to find that "special person", the duo will keep having battles one after another, and that's it. Not too bad if fanservice is all you asked for, but not exactly satisfactory if you seek more than that.

Verdict: Interesting method of fanservice, but lack a good story concept.

Yes, they lost control of their bladder.
Hagure Yuusha no Estetica (2 episodes)

Instant Summary: Guy enroll in a school for humans with special powers, together with the daughter of a monster he killed.

Hanazawa Kana, Ueda Kana, Inoue Marina, Hisaka Youko, Taketatsu Ayana, Satou Rina. With just the list of seiyuu. I would have made this top priority. Without a doubt, this is one of the best lineups this season.

There exist a genre where you would find in most Korean shounen manhwa. There isn't a specific kind of plot, but it usually goes like this: Arrogant, powerful main character enters an environment with people stronger than him; Everyone's a gangster; Main character has no regard for rules; Unjustified beating/bullying;  Main character fights his way to the top; Everyone has a cool phrase/acts cool; There's always a sinister/deranged/sexualised scheme or plot going on; Highly sexualised girls that are really easy, or plain impossible to get; Everyone's got a huge inflated ego. Hagure Yuusha no Estetica isn't Korean, but that's exactly what it is.

I happen to hate stuff like that. To me it's like a shallow testosterone-pumping flick, and a waste of time. Too bad about the seiyuu lineup.

Verdict: Crap.
